Workout Notes 5/28/04

Posted by David Leslie on May 28, 2004

Pre Workout:
Didn’t sleep much again last night but what else is new. John was really fussy around bedtime and woke up a few times in the middle of the night.
Plus Jean was really tired which = snoring. So I slept in the guest bed for part of the night.

Workout:
5 min Stationary bike
10 bicep curls
10 triceps pull downs
10 Sit-ups
10 bicep curls
10 triceps pull downs
10 Sit-ups
8 bicep curls
8 triceps pull downs
1 ‘huge set’ of
5 crunches
5 leg lifts
5 crunches
5 leg lifts
10 min stationary bike
10 min treadmill

Post Workout Notes:
Kind of a light day which was good given I was tired. Amy told her vacation fill-in that you can tell when I’m tired and that I wasn’t afraid to let her know.

I opted to do 10 of treadmill just to mix things up. It was good since at the point my feet started to bug it was time for me to stop. I also talked Kathleen Q’s ear off while she tried to do her interval training next to me. It made the time go faster.

Need to take a big walk on Monday to get my work in. Sounds like I’ll be pushing the boy around the ‘hood.

CNN.com – Italy sets strict pizza guidelines – May 27, 2004

Posted by David Leslie on May 27, 2004

I’m all for this.. Granted they left off most toppings I would add but some things must have the original defined and protected before what they inspired replaces them.
CNN.com – Italy sets strict pizza guidelines – May 27, 2004: “They recognize only three types of real Neapolitan pizza: mariner, with garlic and oregano; Margherita, with basil and mozzarella cheese from the southern Apennines; and extra-Margherita, with fresh tomatoes, basil and buffalo mozzarella from Campania, the region that includes pizza’s hometown, Naples.”

Portsmouth Herald Local News: 2 women charged in dog killing

Posted by David Leslie on May 27, 2004

The sad final days of Dewey with the first qoutes from his former owner.
Video of the interview

The woman even helped him put up flyers with a reward for the dog!

The woman identifying herself as Wylie allegedly gave the name of Patrick Collins as the customer for the advertisement. Collins was the dog’s owner and Wylie’s boyfriend, according to The Associated Press.

On Monday, the AP reported that Collins told WMUR-TV he couldn’t believe what had happened.

“I don’t know what to say about her. She’s my best friend,” he said of Wylie, his girlfriend of two years.

“I wish she could give me some sort of explanation. I don’t know if she was jealous of him. I don’t know how you could be jealous of a little dog,” he said.

Collins said the dog waited to greet him every day when he came home for work.

“I just loved him so much,” he said.

Woman Drowns Boyfriend’s Little Dachshund – May 24, 2004

Posted by David Leslie on May 26, 2004

Let’s look at the logic of this.
– Man owns a dachshund
– Girlfriend hates the dog

This happens all the time. While we were dating my now wife hated my dog. Really hated my dog. Yet she did not take the drastic steps of
1. Staging a break in of my house taking my computer, camera and dog.
2. Drowning the dog

I mean, just nailing the computer is grounds for a breakup alone. But to drown the dog! The woman could be Monica Bellucci and I’d still never talk to her again if she drowned my dog even if she threw herself at me.

Workout 5/26/04

Posted by David Leslie on May 26, 2004

Pre Workout notes:
Took a generic Aleve last night which has been helping the knees some but their still tender to certain movements. I told Amy about my Doctor’s visit so she adjusted today’s ab and leg workout to not put so much stress on the knee.

Workout
5 min stationary bike
Stretch
Bench squat 20 no weight
15 crunches
Bent over delta rises 12
Bench Squat 15 no weight
15 crunches
Bent over delta rises 12
Supine leg curls 12
Knee lifts 10
Supine leg curls 10
Knee lifts 8
Pull down 12
Pull down with reverse grip 12
12:34 min stationary bike
Stretch

Post Workout notes:
The Supine leg curls just flat out kill. Back of the knee and the hamstring were ablaze while I tried to keep my heals on the ball as I pulled it in. Amy tells me in time I can move my hands in to work the abs but for now their out reaching as far as I can in an attempt to keep the ball centered.

My hamstring cramped up into the bike so I opted to stop. I’ll take John for a walk to make up for the lost time if it doesn’t rain.

m i l l e n n i u m | cooking : ben’s jade chicken

Posted by David Leslie on May 26, 2004

Ben is the dev lead on Firefox, which is replacing IE as my main personal browsers. I want to give this dish a try when I get a chance.

m i l l e n n i u m | cooking : ben’s jade chicken

Jade Chicken (My Variation)

Preparation time: 20-30 mins
Cooking time: ~ 10 mins

1lb chicken, cubed
1 egg
1 tbsp cornflour
1 tsp salt

3 tbsp Lee Kum Kee Black Bean Sauce with Garlic Dinner Sauce
1 tbsp water

1tsp sugar
1 tbsp Sherry
1 tbsp Light Soy Sauce
1 cup Chicken Stock (e.g. 2 cubes Oxo + 1 cup boiling water)

2tbsp cornflour
2tbsp water

1 large onion, diced finely
1 large red pepper, cubed
handful of cashews

oil for frying

Directions:

1. Beat egg well with salt, blend in cornflour. Add chicken, set aside.
2. Mix Black Bean Dinner Sauce with water and set aside. Dissolve 2tbsp cornflour in 2tbsp water and set aside.
3. Heat wok to high temperature, add about 2T of peanut oil. When oil begins to smoke, add chicken and stir-fry until it changes colour. Remove and set aside.
4. Turn down the heat and cook onion, red pepper and cashews. Add black bean sauce mixture and stir fry for about a minute over low heat.
5. Turn the heat back up, add back the chicken, sherry, sugar, stock, soy sauce, cornflour mixture. Bring to the boil. Watery consistency should thicken with the cornflour mixture.
6. After a few minutes once reduced and sauce of medium thickness remove from heat and serve with steamed rice.

I got this recipe from “More Long-Life Chinese Cooking” by Madame Wong and Silvia Schulman, “Jade Chicken” – that recipe had grapes. You might think I’m commiting some sort of crime by not listing grapes here, well, I’m only listing things I’ve tried and I didn’t have grapes so I didn’t make this with grapes. You’re free to add them!
