Snoopy vs. the Red Baron rocks

Posted by David Leslie on December 31, 2006

Santa also brought a copy of Snoopy vs. the Red Baron for the PC which has become a minor family obsession.

Now I need to cop to the fact that Peanuts is my all time favorite comic and Snoopy’s tales of the Red Baron fueled my love of WWI aviation. So when word got out that this game was coming out, I knew that if it would boot, I’d buy it.

That said, the game plays much like Xbox’s Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge (I’m waiting for a Crimson Skies 3 to come out before I get a 360), a game that is near and dear to my heart. So close that I was tempted to calls this Snoopy meets Crimson Skies. The focus is not so much on the flying but on the gameplay. Not to say this game is easy. It’s got some very nice level designs along with a lack of an ingame save. It’s also a bit short with just 4 maps that are also used for multiplayer. The game takes place within a book that Snoopy has written starring the gang as the aliided army in a war against the Red Baron. So rather than fly in the doghouse, Snoopy flys the Sopwith Camel. Don’t worry, the Red Baron’s pilots always bail out and he uses alot of robots so no one really ‘dies’. However I’ve got to say that when I played the training level I was so happy to see that you get to fly the doghouse around the neighborhood.I just wished you could fly the doghouse in multiplayer.

Now for the family obsession part. My 3 year old is playing it, my wife who is not a big gamer is playing it. My brother and sister in law were playing it while I was finishing Christmas dinner. I just wish the Xbox version hadn’t been canceled since the PC version does not have the an air race or co-op mode. To get around this, my in-laws are picking up a copy for their PS2 and bringing it over so we can play at new years.

Has it been a month?

Posted by David Leslie on December 30, 2006

I can’t believe its been a month since my last post. Then again, I’ve been writing in my journal but not stuff that is blog appropriate.

Ok, so here’s what’s been new:

1. Got some great swag for attending two partner events on Microsoft Office and the MS fun night. Franklin Computing Services gave me a 1 GIG flash drive while I got dinner and a copy of Halo 2 from Microsoft.

2. My 4.0 survived MIS300.

3. Lots of stress between work and getting ready for the holidays.

4. Speaking of the holiday I did get one of the things on my Christmas list post. Thanks to a gift certificate from Amazon, a discount from Tiger Direct and another discount for signing up for a Amazon card took at pair of PC165 to under $6 with shipping. It’s strange to wear them since they feel big on my head unlike my Altec Lansing which feel like there about to snap in two.

5. Took the little guys to see Happy Feet. Not a bad flick but the last 40 minutes was a bit too preachy about the dangers of over fishing.

6. Costco has come to Columbus. So far we did succumb to buying the new Cook’s Illustrated Cookbook and a few gifts but that’s been about it.

7. Saw Casino Royal. Oh my, that was what the Bond films needed. Sure it ran a bit long but the stunts were real stunts, the danger felt real and Mr. Craig proved to be a better Bond than anyone could have expected. Still, I would love for a very evil femme fatal for the next villain but it looks like SPECTRE is back in town.
